My honest and in-depth review of the Simba Hybrid mattress
Simba mattresses are very popular, and for a good reason. I received a Simba Hybrid Mattress for a review and will share my honest views in this post. Overall, I have been impressed. It was easy to set up, had good size options and is comfortable to sleep on. I will explain in more depth all these factors, so read on if you want to know in detail what the Simba Sleep mattress feels like in real life.
My Simba mattress
I received the Simba Hybrid Mattress, which is the second-cheapest mattress Simba provides. There are currently five options - Essential, Hybrid, Pro, Luxe and Ultra. The Hybrid (in single size that I have) has 1,000 microsprings, is 25cm deep, and has a foam base (CertiPur) and a stabilising core foam layer.
Setting up the Simba mattress was easy
One of the big positives of Simba mattresses is how easy they are to set up, and move around in your home because they come in a box, rolled up.
This was certainly my experience. I felt it was very easy to set up the Simba mattress, and I managed to do the single sized mattress on your own. While it would have been easier of course with another adult, it was perfectly possible to do single handedly. This single mattress by Simba weighed 20kg, but because it is delivered rolled up and in a box with convenient cut-outs for handling, I was able to take it up the stairs on my own. Once out of the box, I was able to manoeuvre it up to the bunk bed and cut the plastic sheet and let it roll easily on the bed slats.
For a larger and a heavier mattress I would say two adults are needed though. You could possibly set it up yourself but it would be a struggle.
Simba does not recommend using their regular mattresses in bunk beds by the way - they have kids mattresses that are not as deep. However, I measured our bunk bed sides and the depth of the mattress was fine and at a safe level. Your mileage may vary though, so do make sure you measure carefully if you plan to use the Simba in a bunk bed!
Different Simba mattress options (size, style, materials) are extensive
While on the site I had a look at all the different options provided, and was quite impressed with the size options provided. There were all the usual UK sizes, but also EU sizes provided - important if you (like me) also shop at IKEA. Don't do what I did though, and do remember that IKEA beds tend to be EU sizes when you order your mattress...
There was a good amount of different levels of support, as well as materials. I was quite intrigued by the Natural Hybrid Mattress, which has more natural fibres used. For support there are five different types of Hybrid Mattresses, with the depth and the number of layers and microsprings correlating with the price of the mattress type (Essential, Hybrid - which we have, Pro, Luxe and Ultra).
There are also kids mattresses, which are UK single size and 16cm depth. Simba says that they do not recommend their normal mattresses in bunk beds but the kids mattresses are suitable for this. Make sure you measure the bunk bed sides!
Comfort of the Simba mattress was good
My teenager who sleeps on the mattress has described it as "Smooth, soft and springs back quickly". High praise indeed from a teenager.
When I've tried the mattress (and considering I am significantly heavier than my teen) I've felt the mattress to be comfortable, relatively soft and supportive, and easy to relax on. It feel a bit like memory foam, but you do not sink in as much and when you move position it springs back to support you. We have had the mattress for about a month now, and it feels still very comfortable to lie on.
The care instructions say you have to rotate the mattress 180 degrees every month. Not flip it, but essentially that you have your head at either side of it alternatively. This helps with mattresses wearing down over time and stops excessive sinking at pressure points. As we have it on a bunk bed my plan it to just move the pillow...
Over longer-term I will update this review to give views on the longer-term comfort of the Simba Hybrid mattress. And until then, if you have any questions please add in the comments and I will respond!
