No mummy

Now, can you hazard a guess what might be the favourite word of a two year old girl? I bet you can...

No is a word I hear far too often. At the moment everything is a No. A firm, resolute, and a loud No.

She is never hungry, never wants to drink, never wants to sleep. She never wants to watch TV, she never wants to play with her dolly, she never wants to go out. There are certain clothing items that are No, and certain toys that are No as well. And some things are so terrible (like sitting in the bath...) that they become Nonononono items. Until she sits down and suddenly it becomes fun to splash around. Toddlers...

Occasionally I like to test whether or not she is actually listening to what I am saying. Because there is one thing she loves more than anything else... On those occasions our conversation goes a bit like this.

'Do you want to have some bread?'
'No!'
'Do you want to have some chicken nuggets?'
'No!'
'Do you want to have some water?'
'No!'
'Do you want to have some juice?'
'No!'
'Do you want to watch Fireman Sam?'
'No!'
'Peppa?'
'No!'
'Moomins?'
'No!'
'Well, would you like to have some chocolate?'
'......... Yah!'

Mummy's daughter! (I could eat my weight in chocolate, easily).

Do you have similar conversations too? What is the one thing that breaks the resistance in your household? :)

  3. Haha - I was doing that the other day when toddler was ignoring me! She was suddenly miraculously able to hear me & respond when I threw 'shall we turn off Peppa Pig?' into what I was saying! We also quite like 'no'! #ftmob

    1. He he, I bet she all of a sudden got very interested in what you were saying :) Peppa is one of our favourites too, but not always strong enough an incentive :)

    1. He he I am glad it made you laugh, sometimes I am not too sure whether I should be laughing or crying! And keep on reminding myself it is just a phase they will grow out of :D

  5. Lol, I can definitely relate to this - no is a very popular word in our house too and I know what you mean about some things being so awful that they become "nonononono". Chocolate gets a yes vote here as well - love your way of testing to see if she is listening. Thanks for sharing with #ftmob :-)

    1. Yeah, it is funny seeing her immediately perk up as soon as chocolate is mentioned. She might little by little be cottoning on to the fact that I rarely give her any though, so it might lose its effect :) Thanks for hosting!

    1. Thank you :) Another really popular phrase is also "oh dear", she keeps on repeating that everytime she does something she's not supposed to :D

  8. We love the word no here too. Ive started offering choices instead, like "Would you like an apple or a banana" It occasionally works, but we still get 'no'!

    1. Ha ha that would most definitely not fly in our house - apples and bananas (and anything remotely healthy) always results in no :D Glad to see that your little one apparently eats her fruits though :)
