iPhone = cuddle time - the ordinary moments

We are a family of three - me, my husband and Speedy Gonzales our toddler girl. She does not stop for one moment, she is always on the go, running around, from one end of the room to the other. Cuddles and kisses to mummy and daddy are rare treats, and always gratefully accepted.

Giving mummy or daddy kisses or cuddles doesn't rank very high on her to do list. Pressing the phone buttons, trying to climb up the stairs, trying to explore the kitchen, jumping on the sofa and, sigh, playing with the iPhone seem to be much more fun things to do.

So sometimes when I let her play with my iPhone I grab her and cuddle her. Scoop her in my arms and place her in my lap. She is somewhat oblivious to what is going on around her (or perhaps just benevolently returning the favour) and I get a nice long cuddle. A chance to hold my little girl, breathe in her smell and feel her heart beat.

We stayed like this for probably 15 minutes, which is a record time for mummy cuddles.Cuddling and snuzzling into her was lovely, even if it meant listening to Pat-a-Cake or Row Row Row Your Boat ten times in a row. Just one of these little moments I am sure I will miss when she gets older and less interested in being with mummy...

Now, just need to come up with a way to get more cuddles that doesn't involve bribing her with an access to high-tech toys... Any ideas?

  1. I have definitely been known to use the iPhone/iPad bribe in order to get a cuddle. Like with you it's one of the only times to guarantee a long cuddle- although saying that both of mine are quite cuddly. Theres nothing like a cuddle though is there? xx

    1. There isn't, they are lovely. My little one gets especially cuddly and kissy right before going to bed, and likes to have a long cuddle when she wakes up, but otherwise it is iBribe time to get any cuddles :D Nice to have the bribing option anyway :)

  2. Aww this sounds like my little boy not so long ago, I love when they're so independent and don't NEED us to make them happy but then getting the cuddles as you say becomes a rare treat. Our little man has become a cuddler again in more recent months, so maybe you will get that stage next too? Fingers crossed #ordinarymoments

    1. I hope so! We shall see, now the little miss is far too independent to let mummy give her cuddles or do anything for her - she wants to dress herself, eat by herself, do everything by herself. It is endearing, but I do wish there were a few more kisses :) I hope it is just a phase like with your little one :)

    1. Our little one doesn't really listen to stories, she is probably a bit too young for that. But hopefully soon that will work with us too :)

  4. Ha, my toddler is exactly the same and I'm not above ipad bribery to get a cuddle either! Reading books in bed is another favourite activity (not least because then I get a rest AND a cuddle). And when he's poorly, of course, but that's less fun...

    1. Yeah, poorly babies always want cuddles, but you feel so sorry for them you can't enjoy it :( Reading books is lovely too, but I find Aili is a little too young at 21 months and she isn't able to concentrate that much. But I hope when she gets a bit older that will become our cuddle time too :)
