London with toddlers: Coram's Fields

Coram's Fields is a lovely little place near Russell Square. Tucked behind Great Ormond Street Hospital, between Russell Square and King's Cross Stations. I used to live practically next door to this park for years but I never visited. Not because I didn't want to, but because I couldn't.

Coram's Field is a park for kids and young people up to 16 years old. It really is a children's park - if you are an adult, you can only enter when accompanied by a child. Last week I took my little one there for the first time.

We ran around, up and down the slides, after the pigeons, with the other kids, away from the other kids... For about two hours straight, running around this huge park, from one place to the other. There were so many new little playmates and so many new and exciting things to play with. The whole park was just non-stop fun.

We loved it. We stayed there two hours, and we could have easily spent even more time there.

As far as parks in London go Coram's Fields is quite special. It has everything for all ages. Climbing frames from little toddlers to big and strong kids, fields and courts to play ball games in for tweens and teenagers, a sandpit, swings, slides, round-a-bouts, and water features. There are even a couple of goats and chicken and bunnies, and a little cafe for weary parents to grab a cup of tea at. I didn't have a chance to sit down and enjoy my cuppa, but maybe next time.

After hours of fun and running around, I would have thought my little one was just about to fall asleep... Well, no, and we ended up going to another park for another two hours. Toddlers and their toddler energy, it is just never-ending!

We loved the park and I am sure we will find our way back there. If you ever end up around Kings Cross / Russell Square area with your kids and have nothing to do, well, you now know a place where you can go!

Are there any other good parks to visit in London?

  1. Amazing tip, thank you! We will definately try that out :) We go to Priory Park (paddling pool, playground) and Alexandra Park (playground, pond and amazing view). Our kids are about the same age so I think these works for you aswell!

    1. Thanks for the tips - I don't think I've even heard of these parks, so will definitely have to check them out if I just happen to be in the area :) I would love to go to Ally Pally at some point too - I've heard that is a great park for kids.

  2. Oh my what a London Gem and so central too, glad you got to go and it sounds like a huge hit with something for every age group there. I love the look of the tunnel slides and of course the animals. Thank you for sharing with me on Country Kids.

  3. I worked near there and knew of Coram's Fields, are there 5 aside pitches there? I didn't realise there was a children's playground, would love to take the kids there the next time we make it back to London as a family x #CountryKids

    1. Yeah it is a huge area (7 acres) and most of it is sports grounds. But the children's park is pretty sizable too, with plenty to see and do. If you do end up near there you definitely should make a detour to this park, it is lovely.

  4. I always love the sound of this park, especially because it seems so little known, even to Londoners - we still haven't managed to get there but I must visit with my daughter when I'm next in the area. #countrykids

    1. Yeah, quite surprisingly not that many people know of it. Perhaps because it is tucked away a bit, even if it is relatively central. I only know of it because I used to live in the area and walked past it often. Do visit, it was fab!

    1. If it is a good weather you should definitely do something outdoorsy. There are also museums like British Museum and Foundling Museum nearby where you can go if it starts raining :) and a shopping centre too (Brunswick centre)! :)
